Student Spotlight: Shutima Potivorakun

Shutima is half Japanese and half Taiwanese born in Thailand. In 2002, she completed a bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences at the Boston University. She has more than ten years of work experience in the IT field. In fact, she did one year as an Application Engineer at Fujitsu System Business, and six years as Senior Quality Assurance at Thomson Reuters in Thailand. Then, she was tranferred to the Thomson Reuters France as Lead Technical Support Engineer.

What was your main reason for attending the Applied MSc in Data Engineering for Artificial Intelligence?

I strongly believe in the meaningful collaboration between people and technology. Artificial intelligence, digital transformation and Big Data will transform how we live, work and even think. I am passionate about innovative technologies, their challenges and the opportunities they create. With my background in Software Engineering and Information Technology, I decided to join the Applied MSc in Data Engineering for AI. This career change is the most important career decisions I ever made!

In what ways did the Applied MSc programme expand your professional perspective?

My previous experience was as a Desktop Support Engineer for financial application. We have recently migrated many services on the Cloud using AWS. Therefore, the AWS Cloud Computing course provides important knowledge about this new technology. Also, there are several courses related to DevOps, Data Pipelines and Deep Learning that allow me to learn and get more experience.

What advice do you have for prospective students who decide to change their career perspective?

My only advice would be to follow your intuition and to push yourself out of your comfort zone!

What is your current job position?

I am an engineer system architect (DevOps & technical support engineer) at GeoTwin, in Paris.
